OverviewPendleton, OR | Eastern Oregon's Best-Kept Golfing Secret
The Golf Course at Birch Creek is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR). Located seven miles south of Pendleton on Highway 395, our facility features 18-holes of golf, grass and year-round practice facilities, a full bar & restaurant, and newly remodeled banquet room. Birch Creek is a "sister course" of Wildhorse Resort Golf Course.
The Position | The 1st Asst Golf Professional at Birch Creek, assists the Head Golf Professional in managing daily golf shop operations, including player tracking, merchandizing, tournaments and special events and office administration. Shall supervise Pro Shop staff on shift.
Experience Required
Qualifications/Experience:
- Completion of Level 1 of the PGA PGM program.
- Four (4) year college education or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Two (2) years in customer service experience, preferably in retail.
- One (1) year in a lead supervisor position and two (2) years of related experience in a public or resort golf environment.
- Valid state Driver's License and must be insurable.
- Active in PGM, PGA or LPGA pathway to obtain "A" membership and desire to become a Head Golf Professional.
- Certification in club fitting or possess ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of employment.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, and possess basic math and literacy skills to comprehend and implement golf rules, regulations and policies.
- Must have a good understanding and knowledge of golf play and golf rules, activities including equipment, clothing, shoes and golf terminology is essential.
- Excellent personal appearance and hygiene habits.
- Physically fit: To stand, bend, lift and maneuver items, and able to perform repetitive movement of arms, hands and fingers as needed throughout a standard work day.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to customers and internal business partners and ensure satisfaction through prompt, efficient and friendly service.
- Manage the daily operations of the Pro Shop, which may require general office duties, including filing, writing letters, memorandums and other related duties.
- Will assist the Head Golf Professional and Human Resources in recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, supervising and schedules a seasonal staff.
- Interfaces with WRC staff and departments to communicate daily activities, golf promotions and special events taking place and to ensure the integration of those service functions to meet customer expectations.
- Complies and enforces operating policies, procedures and training for areas of assigned responsibility, including POS procedures, customer service training, work schedules, slow play guidelines, etc.
- Implements and monitors daily tee sheets to increase yield and utilization.
- Responds to and resolves inquiries, questions and complaints from resident and non-resident customers, and employees regarding policies and procedures, course conditions, speed of play, customer service, etc., and refers to the Head Professional as necessary.
- Serve as course Marshall, monitoring the schedule and pace of play.
- Assist in scheduling, organizing, coordinating tournaments, leagues and special golf events.
- Prepares and monitors purchasing documents, coordinating information with accounting.
- Responsible for inventory controls in the Golf Shop and monitoring merchandise levels and sales.
- Will work closely with Head Professional in group instruction settings and golf clinics.
- Supervise staff on shift including performance issues, approving leave, staffing schedules, and training. Shall assist the Golf Pro with performance counseling and appraisals.
- Work at times as Driving Range or Golf Cart Attendant as required during rush/peak periods/events.
- Keep the Golf Shop neat and clean, inside and outside , as well as restocked with merchandise.
- Promotes a clean, safe and healthy work environment for employees and guest. Promptly address critical safety issues and reports all concerns to Head Golf Professional.
- Ensure operation of equipment, tools, materials, etc. are handled in a safe manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Role: In the Head Golf Professional's absence assume supervision of golf operations.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range $45k-$62,500k based on candidate's experience, qualifications and fit; based on instruction and incentives, potential total anticipated income of $52,500-$63,500 or similar based on performance, instruction, etc.
- Lessons (90% retained by PGA professional); (approx range $500-$5,000 based on professional's customer/member engagement capabilities)
