As we build a team aligned with this mission, we're seeking individuals who are passionate, motivated, and ready to grow with us. We are currently hiring a full-time Golf Professional-a pivotal role that blends instruction, operations, player engagement, and customer service.
The Position | As a key member of our leadership team, our Head Golf Professional will be tasked with revitalizing and driving the golf course's revenue through strategic sales initiatives, improved course conditions, and robust marketing efforts. This role emphasizes sales, tournament acquisition, and customer experience, offering an exciting opportunity to have a direct and impactful role in growing our business.
Revenue Generation & Sales:
- Drive revenue growth by identifying and securing more tournaments, events, and outings to increase golf course usage and visibility.
- Develop innovative marketing strategies to attract new customers and retain current ones.
- Lead the creation of compelling promotional offers and campaigns, positioning the golf course as a premier destination for golf events and play.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key clients, event coordinators, and organizations to drive both corporate and private bookings.
- Work closely with ownership to ensure that all sales and promotional materials are aligned with the brand and effectively target our audience.
- Monitor financial performance and implement cost-saving measures where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth and implement initiatives to capitalize on them.
Golf Course Operations:
- Actively monitor the course, including serving as a starter and marshal when necessary, to ensure course operations run smoothly, guests are respecting course policies, and no misuse or abuse of the course is happening. Prepare and adjust weekly work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and labor forecasts.
- Focus on improving the customer experience on the course through better course management and day-to-day operational adjustments.
- Oversee the general flow of the course, ensuring tee times are adhered to, pace of play is managed, and overall guest satisfaction is prioritized.
- Maintains visible presence on the course during peak times of play.
- In partnership with operations manager, F&B manager, ensure that the golf club facilities, including the golf shop, restaurant, check-in area, restrooms, and common areas, are well-maintained and in excellent condition, addressing any maintenance issues such as lighting, cleanliness, and general upkeep to provide a welcoming and professional environment for guests.
Branding & Merchandise Management:
- Lead efforts to enhance the golf course's brand image and visibility, ensuring it aligns with the overall strategy and mission.
- Oversee the merchandising efforts in the golf shop, ensuring that product offerings are aligned with the brand, appealing to customers, and driving sales.
- Work with vendors and partners to curate the right selection of golf products, apparel, and accessories that align with customer preferences and trends.
- Collaborate with ownership to ensure that merchandising strategies complement overall promotional efforts.
- Collaborate with bookkeeper for expenses and accounts payables
Player Development/Instruction:
- Oversee and coordinate golf lesson offerings, ensuring a high-quality experience for individuals and groups seeking instruction.
- Promote golf lessons and instruction packages to customers, working with the golf professionals to enhance the learning experience and attract new players to the course.
- Maintain strong relationships with golf instructors to ensure alignment with the course's overall goals and maintain the highest standards of teaching and coaching.
- Organize and conduct golf clinics for individuals and groups, designed to attract new golfers and improve the skills of current players.
- Work closely with the Food & Beverage team to incorporate a dining or social experience into golf clinics, such as offering post-clinic meals, drinks, or snacks, to create a more engaging and memorable experience for participants.
- Lead & organise our weekly Mens & Womens leagues to keep players & members engaged and excited about the game
Course Conditions & Improvement Plan (in partnership with Superintendent)
- Collaborate closely with the Superintendent to establish and maintain a comprehensive course improvement plan.
- Oversee course conditions, ensuring that they meet and exceed customer expectations. Regularly assess the course's playability and aesthetic appeal.
- Develop and execute a timeline for course improvements, working within the established budget to ensure the golf course is in top condition year-round.
- Proactively address any issues related to course conditions and implement solutions to enhance the overall golfing experience.
Customer Experience & Engagement
- Ensure that all guests have an exceptional experience from arrival to departure, monitoring the course conditions, staff behavior, and overall customer satisfaction.
- Take ownership of customer feedback and act on it, ensuring that any concerns are addressed promptly to maintain a high level of service.
- Foster an environment that promotes the enjoyment and growth of the game of golf, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all skill levels.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sports Management, or related field (preferred).
- PGA membership or equivalent certification (preferred).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in golf course management
- Prior hospitality experience preferred
Job Requirements
- Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
- Strong knowledge of golf industry trends, best practices, and regulations.
- Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency and empathy.
- Professional in appearance and demeanor.
- Proficiency in golf course management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with guests, vendors, and team members.
- Must have the ability to resolve problems and/or conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic math.
- Knowledge of maintenance of greens, fairways, and roughs.
- Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules, and methods of play.
Benefits
Compensation and Benefits
The Club will provide a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. This includes but not limited to:
- Base salary: Up to $60k annually based on depending upon qualifications, experience, etc.
- Player development/instruction income:
- Group/clinic and private lessons with 1-2 to 1 ratio: Professional keeps 75% (proj. range first full year: $3k-5k based on golf professional's abilities to promote and engage customer base)
- Total anticipated compensation range "all-in": $62,500-67,500
Additional benefits include:
- Professional may participate in PGA Golf Retirement Plus plan
- State mandated Sick Pay
- Vacation pay: 60 hours/year, 104 hours after 1+ year, 147 hours after 4 years
- Professional development/continuing education and limited travel expenses based on approved budget
- Health & Dental Insurance (80% employer, 20% employee)
- Life and AD&D, Short & Long Term Disability Insurance (100% employer)
- Staff clothing allowance
- All personal use golf shop merchandise at Cost + 10%; 25% off food and NA drink
- Complimentary use of facility including playing, practice balls and cart (if available) for employee and immediate family members. No cart fee for family when playing with with employee, otherwise pay reduced cart fee. Reduced rate for employee guests.
