Founded over 35 years ago and reopened as a nonprofit residential care facility in 2023, Hopewell House has been a place of refuge, dignity, and support at the end of life. Hopewell House is a 12-bed residential hospice home serving individuals who might otherwise have nowhere to turn. The Opportunity
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and operational leader of Hopewell House, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospice home while advancing the organization’s long-term sustainability and impact. This role blends hands-on operational leadership with strategic vision, financial stewardship, philanthropy, and community engagement.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable ensuring regulatory compliance and quality resident care, leading and supporting a dedicated interdisciplinary team of 40 staff and 150 volunteers, partnering closely with the Board of Directors, and cultivating the financial and philanthropic resources needed to sustain and grow the mission.
Key Areas of Focus
- Providing executive leadership to advance the mission, values, and strategic priorities of Hopewell House. Fosters a healthy organizational culture grounded in trust, accountability, equity, and collaboration.
- Serving as the administrator of record and operational steward of the home, ensuring the facility operates safely, smoothly, and in full compliance with all government regulations.
- Providing oversight for the financial health, sustainability, and revenue generation of the organization, stewarding an approximately $2.5 million annual operating budget.
- Serving as the primary ambassador and public face of Hopewell House, enhancing the organization’s visibility and reputation through active community engagement.
- Collaborating with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities, supporting Board compliance with bylaws, policies, and best practices in nonprofit governance.

Education and Work Experience Desired:
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of management experience in healthcare services, community-based care, social services, education, or other related field.
- Strong facility and operational management skills with attention to detail.
- Sound financial and business judgment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Active Residential Care Facility (RCF) Administrator License, or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Preferred Experience:
- Master’s degree in healthcare, social services, or nursing.
- Leadership experience in a community-based healthcare setting, and ideally end-of-life care.
- Knowledge of the local hospice and healthcare landscape.
- Familiarity with highly regulated healthcare environments with preference for knowledge of community-based care (CBC) facilities.
- Experience with crisis management and complex operational challenges.

Position Overview
The Executive Director is the chief executive and operational leader of Hopewell House. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operation, management, and stewardship of the 12-bed residential hospice home and 501(c)(3) nonprofit, while also leading organizational strategy, financial sustainability, philanthropy, community engagement, and strategic vision.
This is a dynamic, multifaceted position requiring a leader who is equally comfortable managing facilities and operations, overseeing staff and volunteers, partnering with the Board, and cultivating the financial and philanthropic resources necessary to sustain and grow the organization’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Executive Leadership
- Providing executive leadership to advance the mission, values, and strategic priorities of Hopewell House.
- Hiring, developing, supervising, and retaining capable leadership and support staff.
- Providing direct supervision of senior leadership.
- Fostering a healthy organizational culture grounded in trust, accountability, equity, and collaboration.
2. Operational Oversight
The Executive Director serves as the administrator of record and operational steward of the home, ensuring the facility operates safely, smoothly, and in full compliance with all government regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Comprehensive oversight of daily operations and administration of Hopewell House.
- Ensuring the facility is safe, well-maintained, compliant, and welcoming for residents, families, staff, and volunteers.
- Promoting and supporting a robust volunteer program.
- Maintaining active relationships with state licensing, regulatory, and oversight agencies, ensuring ongoing compliance with all applicable rules and standards.
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with community health systems, referral agencies, and contract partners.
- Conducting oversight of risk management, safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and incident response.
- Developing, implementing and regularly reviewing administrative, operational, and facility policies and procedures.
3. Financial Management and Philanthropy
The Executive Director provides oversight for the financial health, sustainability, and revenue generation of the organization, in partnership with the Director of Administrative Operations and Director of Development.
Financial Management:
- Overall fiscal stewardship of an approximately $2.5 million annual operating budget.
- Ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting and internal controls.
- Overseeing contracts, resource procurement, and expense management.
- Complying with all requirements of 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Philanthropy:
- Overseeing annual fundraising goals in collaboration with the Development Director.
- Cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, foundations, institutional partners, and community supporters.
- Supporting grant development and major donor engagement as needed to ensure long-term sustainability.
4. External Relations and Communications
- Serving as the primary ambassador and public face of Hopewell House.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, local businesses, healthcare systems, and referral networks.
- Enhancing the organization’s visibility and reputation through active community engagement.
- Overseeing marketing, website, public relations, social media, and public presentations.
- Ensuring consistent messaging aligned with the mission, values, and strategic goals of Hopewell House.
5. Board Relations
- Collaborating with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities.
- Providing timely, accurate, and relevant information to support Board decision-making.
- Supporting Board compliance with bylaws, policies, and best practices in nonprofit governance.
