Overview

Newport, OR | The Agate Beach Golf Course opened for play in 1931 as the Agate Beach Golf Links. Some say ABGC is the "pearl of golf" on the beautiful Central Oregon Coast. Agate Beach is located on the north end of Newport, Oregon on Highway 101 which is near the Pacific Ocean and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and adjoining Natural Area.

The original course was designed by Frank Stenzel, Sr. and was purchased by and operated since 1960 by the Martin family. The signature hole, the 8th, is a short and challenging par 3. The nine-hole course includes a driving range and short game area, and a clubhouse with a "class golf course cafe." The course layout is fairly level with a slightly rolling terrain surrounded by a lush wooded area. It is well maintained throughout the year and is especially suited for year round play. Terry Martin, PGA Head Professional, says his favorite part of the course is the eighth hole, par 3, which his father Bill constructed in 1960. Number eight is a 115 yard hole with towering fir and hemlock trees. The challenging green is guarded by a large bunker. This hole serves as a memorial to Bill Martin, who passed away in 1995.

Through the years golfers have enjoyed the course with friends and family making it a family tradition. It continues to be our commitment to provide an enjoyable round of golf. Lessons, a full service pro shop featuring sportswear, equipment and rentals are available seven days a week.

Opportunity 1 and/or Opportunity 2

OPP1: This full-time position is for an assistant professional or person interested in golf business. Competitive compensation $19-$24 hour starting out based on experience. Looking for motivated person interested in all aspects of the golf business. Greeting customers, starting first tee, merchandising, golf cars, driving range duties, some food and beverage, also possibility of some outside grounds maintenance. Opportunity to give lessons. Complimentary meal during shift. Note: This is a year round employment opportunity, but for the right candidate, the possibility of winter time off is negotiable.

OPP2: In this opportunity, ownership would welcome an experienced (possibly semi-retired) PGA professional looking for "the perfect job at the beach" including just the right blend of golf operations, small event management and teaching, not to mention a chance to mentor younger golfers (would be golf professionals perhaps) and get enough interesting work but not the burden of responsbility/authority per se. Comp for this role would be similar to Opp1 and could include support when playing in OPGA Senior Pro-Ams with Agate Beach stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities

The Assistant Golf Professional will assist with the day to day operation of the facility. All duties of the position shall be performed with a commitment to 'customer-centric' service standards. The Assistant Golf Professional will work directly with our public guests and multiple other staffers on property.

The role of the Assistant Golf Professional includes but is not limited to:

• Perform all opening and closing responsibilities
• Perform guest registration, check-in and cash handling responsibilities
• Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, perform all duties related to all group/outside events including planning, pre-event preparations, course set-up, scoring, prize presentations, special merchandising, billing and post-event wrap up
• Manage golf car operation, practice facility and club storage services
• Assist in inventory control of all merchandise and supplies for Golf Shop and Golf Operations, point of sale data input, display and daily sales
• Conduct a daily inspection of entire golf facility including golf course, practice area and the Clubhouse
• Merchandise creatively and upsell retail items

Note: if the applicant hired fits Opportunity 1, we will train, support and develop them as needed. If the applicant hired has significant prior experience as a PGA professional, we will look for ways to utilize their experience in substantive ways that are beneficial to all of our team, our customers, etc.

Benefits

Comp & Benefits:

This projected position could be year-round, full time position with hourly rate of $18-24/hr projected, but would be negotiable* based on the candidate selected. (However, they could be flexible and seasonal too based on the candidate's needs/fit.) The range shown as salary in this listing is based on this hourly rate.

• Base pay range: about $35,360-$45,760* (if working 2080 hrs annually, *This is not a salary position, but shown as an hourly pay with an annualized view)
• Some budgeted OT possible
• Plus limited instruction compensation for PGA professionals: Junior Golf Program, individual lessons & Group clinics. $500-$2,000
• Anticipated comp possible based on candidate and their qualifications/experience: $47,500-$50,000

• Other benefits to be determined/negotiated based on candidate. Due to the location of this opportunity, management will work with selected candidate to assist with housing opportunities as possible.

Preferred start date of mid-April 2026, but employer will be flexible based on the exit/arrival timing needed for successful candidate(s).
